The start of
a new year always feels hopeful. It’s the beginning of a new cycle and a good
time to look forward and set new goals. One of my goals for 2015 is to be more actively involved
with my writing and complete other planned creative projects. With that in mind, I was
delighted when one of my blog friends posted about a short story contest. I’ve
been writing to some extent since childhood but it’s been many years, well, more
like a couple decades, since I’ve actually written a short story. I’m excited
about the challenge of writing a story for the contest and this is exactly the
prompting I need to start seriously writing again.
The contest
is for fiction short story writing, any genre, and writers from all over the world
can participate. There is no reading fee. The prize is $100 and publication in
the Southern Pacific Review. Deadline is March 30, 2015.
If you're interested in submitting a short fiction story, you can find information and a link at Julia Hone's post on her blog, My Writing Life. Julia is an exceptional writer and the poetry editor of the Southern Pacific Review.

I’d like to
close this post with a special video for the new year: The Mountain by TSO
Photography, filmed over seven days from a mountain in Spain. The time-lapse
images are stunning and it’s accompanied by beautiful music. Makes you pause
and appreciate the planet we live on.

DeleteWhat a spectacular video, Madilyn! I think we should always view the world as if we were seeing it from the top of a mountain. Good luck in the story contest and happy new year! And please post your story when it's done-I want to read it.
ReplyDeleteMarty, always viewing life as if we were seeing it from the top of a mountain would definitely broaden our appreciation for life and nature. That is a wonderful thought! Happy New Year to you too and thank you! After the story contest is done and Southern Pacific Review has made their selections, I’ll post the story on my blog. :)
DeleteMadilyn that was beautiful music and photography. As an amateur I consider that time-lapse photography is not featured as much as it should be these days. Seemed more prominent when it first came into vogue 20+ years ago. ..... and "break a leg" in the short story contest. I hope you post your entry.
ReplyDeleteNeil, I agree with you about time lapse photography. It’s so beautiful and not as featured as it used to be when it was in vogue. I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for your good wishes on the short story contest. :)
DeleteGood luck on the contest! The time lapse video is really beautiful, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Marcia! :) I'm glad you enjoyed the time lapse video too!
