And what would a festive summer holiday be without ice cream!
Red, White, Blue and Chocolate Sundae
Reposting one of my favorite ice cream creations for the holiday. All the patriotic colors, fruit in season and, of course, chocolate! Enjoy!
Chill dessert dishes in the fridge. Use whole fresh blueberries,
and sliced fresh strawberries. Suggest sprinkling a little sugar (or sugar
substitute) over the sliced strawberries, just enough to make them glisten and remove
some of the tartness.
Put a nice big scoop of vanilla ice cream in the bottom of the chilled dish. Add a layer of sliced strawberries and drizzle with chocolate sauce (I like the dark chocolate sauce). Then another scoop of vanilla ice cream, a layer of blueberries, and drizzle with chocolate sauce. Top with whipped cream, drizzle of chocolate sauce, and garnish with a whole strawberry. Ice cream is a great anytime dessert!

We had a wicked storm too - along with a funnel cloud that touched down in several places within a few miles of us, spotted by hubby on his way home from work yesterday. Scary. Glad you are safe and that power is up and running! Happy 4th!
ReplyDeleteMelody, I had seen your post about your wicked storm and left a comment, and I think my wicked storm came the next day! Totally unexpected and this type of storm (derecho they called it) is almost unheard of where I live! We were lucky to have no major damage. Hope you and I don’t see these wicked storms again anytime soon!!
DeleteOMG I was worried!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks CrazyMama, nice to know I was missed! Nasty storm we had, came on quickly and very severe with hurricane-like winds (very unusual for June around here!). Days after the storm, utility companies are still trying to get power back on for some folks, plus 100 degree heat, so I feel lucky to have our power on and sure hope it stays on!
Deletesalivating as I'm reading your post! :P eehhhe
ReplyDeleteYou have to try this ice cream sundae, it’s so good!! :)
DeleteGlad to here you were alright with no major damage. Living without power is really hard, especially in 100 degree heat!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristina! The record-breaking heat added to the misery but I think my poor dogs were the most miserable. Took days to get the power back on but we were very lucky to have no major damage with trees and power lines falling down around us. Lost all the food in the fridge so the first thing I did was celebrate having power back on by eating a bowl of ice cream...comfort food! :)
DeleteMadilyn, that holiday treat looks perfect for today, as we're expecting record temperatures. Sorry to hear about the storm that came your way, but happy to hear the worst is now over.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Marty! Record-breaking temps here too, so this ice cream dessert is perfect. That severe storm was called a derecho, really unheard of for this area so utilities were totally unprepared. We were fortunate to have no major damage, and now that power is restored I can have my ice cream again! Have a great weekend!
DeleteHey, that's a different shirt...and dog, or am I nuts...no, don't answer that last one.
ReplyDeleteCrazyMama you get an A for sharp observation!! :) Yes the shirt and dog are different! This is a pic with my second dog, Coco. I’ve been trying to get both dogs to sit still for an updated picture with me but I just can’t get two dogs to sit still at the same time...lol! So last time it was Roscoe, this time it’s Coco.
DeleteHe's soooo cute. What kind is he again? And you look pretty in pink, btw.
ReplyDeleteWhy thank you! Coco is a German shepherd mix. She was adopted in 2009 from an animal rescue group (PAW) holding an adoption fair at Petco. She’s a real sweetheart, very good natured for a dog who had been mistreated and malnourished before we got her. I think I’ll do a post about my adopted dogs soon.
DeleteI left you something on my post. Stop by to pick it up.
